Camping is one of the greatest outdoor activities that many look forward to spending with their close friends and family members. It’s filled with adventure, excitement and gives us a chance to bond with our loved ones as well. The only thing that throws us off about this fantastic endeavor is the infernal packing.

Sometimes we get so anticipated about camping that we forget to pack the essentials like a first aid kit, a flashlight, a pack of matches, a compass, a map or anything else that is crucial to our survival and convenience. So we took the liberty of preparing a list of only the items that you really need for your outdoor escapade:

1.  First Aid Kit

Whether you’re camping, expect the unexpected, which is another way of saying ‘a lot can go wrong.’ Some of those mishaps include blisters, cuts, splinters or minor burns. That’s why it’s important to store a first aid kit for you and the rest of the folk on your camping trip. Be sure to take it with you on your excursions because you never know what might happen.

2.  Rope

In many situations, a rope can be quite useful. Apart from tieing a variety of knots, you can make a clothesline out of it to hang your clothes, create a shelter, hang your coolers from a branch at night, or even tow people out of tight situations like quicksand, cliffs, etc.

3.  Weather-Ready Clothing

You would want to stay warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s warm, which is why you should wear moisture-wicking or dry fit clothing. It makes for a more comfortable camping experience when you dress in layers (or stay dry).

4.  A Pack of Matches

You can’t cook some healthy grub, a packet of marshmallows or sing a catchy campfire song without a campfire now, can you? Matches can come in real handy not just as a substitute for flashlights, but also for staying warm during cold nights or fending off unwanted predators who may be lurking about. That’s why you shouldn’t risk it and buy matches in bulk.

5.  Female Urination Devices

If you want to avoid gross bathrooms when you’re camping, don’t forget to bring your FUD (Female Urination Device). It’ll allow you to pee standing up like a guy, in the bushes instead of the outhouse. Click here to learn more about female urination devices.

6.  Sleeping Bag

If you’re one of those folks who wish to sleep under the stars, then a sleeping bag is the right equipment for the job. Be sure to pack one that is especially comfortable, lightweight, durable, easy-to-clean, waterproof and season-appropriate.

7.  Water Bottle

Water can not only be used to quench your thirst, but also help you stay hydrated during long excursions under warm conditions, and clean your intestines of any impurities.

Bring a reusable water bottle with you and be sure to refill it at your campsite’s water spigots or bring extra gallons just to be on the safe side.

8.  Maps And Compass

A GPS app on your smartphone or car console may probably be the most convenient way to navigate around campgrounds, but it won’t be of any use if you’re in a remote area with hardly any signals.

That’s why you should consider packing other navigation essentials such as maps or a compass in case a GPS proves to be less reliable.

9.  Tent

Choosing the right tent depends on you, but it typically has to be both easy-to-setup and weatherproof. More importantly, the size and the type of tent depends on the size of your group and space needs.

10. Dinner and Breakfast Supplies

Perhaps one of the trickiest parts of camping is figuring out what to eat. If you’re thinking about grilling burgers, hot dogs or other items for dinner, then you may want to consider bringing a gas stove or even a fire pit would suffice. For breakfast, eggs, bacon or yogurt with granola are some of the finer combinations to get your mornings rolling. Be sure to bring a spatula, some tongs, and also pack some perishables in a cooler filled with ice.
